Our Village Education Department depicts colonial history in 19th Century New Zealand through a hands-on and interactive educational experience of the 1840 to 1880 period.
We offer a tailor-made educational programme relating to the activities and theme you choose when booking. We also offer a unique EOTC programme, highly educational and relevant to many areas of the NZ curriculum.

Planning Guide
A typical visit to the Village's open-air museum sees your students greeted at the gate by our education staff who are dressed as though they live in the early settlement of Howick. Students have a short morning tea before they embark on the morning activities. We have 22 educational activities that showcase various aspects of life during Victorian time in New Zealand. In each of these we are able to provide the students with the elements that are most relevant to their area of study. They then break for lunch before being able to explore the village in groups. Students must bring their own lunch. Please do not bring pre-schoolers on school trips. For a breakdown of the activities please see the activities tab. General Charges
- Cancellation less than a week before the visit will incur a cancellation fee of $100.00. Students must bring their own lunch. Please do not bring preschoolers on school trips.
- Payment can be made on the day by cheque, direct debit or you can chose to be invoiced. Cheques should be made out to: The Howick & Districts Historical Society Inc.
- A minimum $200 per visit will be charged.
