School Holiday Fun - Connecting Stars, Connecting Oceans

As an extension of Matariki, join carver, artist and cultural facilitator Calvin Devine (Ngāpuhi) in a 2-hour, hands-on whakairo (carving) workshop. Create your own waka hourua (double-hulled canoe) using traditional techniques. Learn about Kupe’s journey to Aotearoa and Te-Wheke using an indigenous compass and navigation by the stars. 

Step back in time, learn skills from the past and experience some of the work done every day, in hands-on activities with costumed guides. With games, crafts and more! 

 

Waka carving workshop, Tuesdays 11am-1pm  

Make a waka hourua (double-hulled canoe) in this 2-hour workshop with carver Calvin Devine. $10pp. Age 5+. Parent supervision required for children under 10. Booking recommended – contact Village@historicalvillage.org.nz

Butter making, Wednesdays and weekends 11am   

Roll up your sleeves and help churn cream into butter! Included in admission price.

Beeswax candle making, Thursdays 11am  

Explore historical candle making methods. Meet the bees and make a candle of your own. $5pp  


Admission: adult $16, senior/student $14, child $8, child under 5 free. Open Tues-Sun 10am-4pm. Last admission at 3pm.
